<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VRSnZQIQxyA/VqINX555-HI/AAAAAAAAAhs/zT68NQmKsyY/s1600/win-at-photography-business.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VRSnZQIQxyA/VqINX555-HI/AAAAAAAAAhs/zT68NQmKsyY/s320/win-at-photography-business.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
So... we're going to talk about word of mouth.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Is it just me who dislikes the subject of word of mouth?? I feel like I needed to rip of the plaster (or band-aid whatevs :) ) for this post. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know from experience how annoying it is when people tell you that the <i>key to your photographer business is word of mouth. </i>OMG I know!!! I want <i>other keys!!! That key is so pants... there must be another one.</i> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I realised recently that it's because I'm not in control of it that I dislike it so much. You can't ask your customers to talk about you, just like you can't force your friends to share your facebook posts. You could end up with an amazing customer who does it without asking, but they are few and far between.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I realised what we need is a real, honest way to push the dreaded word of mouth. How do you make your customer's happy to talk about you? I want to give our customers an easy way of saying 'Our photographer is great <i>because...'</i><br />
<br />
So I made a list of tips because lists are awesome...<i> </i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>1. Amazing customer service</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You should be on top of your game for this one anyway, but it's top of the list. Be efficent, friendly, attentive.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
(On a side note, I heard an awful story from the Mom of three gorgeous, very energic little boys that the last photographer she used kept shouting at the boys. He was actually getting annoyed that they were having fun!<i> Do Not Do That!! Negative talk is worse than no talk. </i>If they are rolling about, let them roll about. They'll eventually pose and then you'll get a real photo of them not a staged smile because the photographer is <i>scary.)</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. Give extra</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When they order 10 prints - give them 11. Maybe they were umming and erring over one photo and chose not to purchase it. Don't tell them, just get it in the order. It's a way of saying thank you, here's something for you. And it's a talking point for people.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3.</b> <b>Share on Social Media</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After they purchase - whether or not they bought digital files. Always post one - just one - and you'll be happy with the results. Make sure your watermark is obvious and that it came through your work media page not personal one. Try to tag, because if that doesn't work (aka Facebook hates us) comment tag because they might share.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And always check that with the family beforehand, we have a lot of customers that are pretty private and don't want shared photos so we don't, simple as :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b></b><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>4. Send cards</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Christmas is a while off now, but we send cards to everyone at Christmas. If you know their birthday,s those too. Just a reminder that we didn't forget about them and don't let them forget about you.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>5. Send Presents</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b>We tend to pick our 5 best customers and send presents. Best is not nessecarily from how much they've spent - but often how much
they're involved in our business. If they share our work, talk about us,
if someone says to us 'Hey, Julie gave us your number...' etc etc, give
them a $10 coffee card or an amazon voucher.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That's all I've got at the moment but if anyone else has great word of mouth tips I would love to hear them!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Love, Georgee x</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
How much I love this time of year is crazy. I don't love it <i>now </i>because it's freezing and wet and windy, but a month ago? It was beautiful. Orange and red and yellow <i>everywhere.</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We knew it was getting prettier and prettier so we set out to do a week of mini sessions where met families in a park local to our house. Mini sessions aren't something we do often, but coming up to Christmas they are a great way to appeal to people who know of us but have never used our services personally as well as get to have some fun with a whole bunch of people :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of my favourite sessions of the week - though it was hard to choose - was this gorgeous family who we had to reschedule due to dark, wintery weather. And what a good job it was that we did - the next day was <i>perfect. </i>Despite it being a half an hour session we took so many photos it was almost impossible to choose - so here's 5 out of about 40!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IV7qkgssDq4/VlMOMQvyG6I/AAAAAAAAAfY/MvuyOm2kgvM/s1600/lessismore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IV7qkgssDq4/VlMOMQvyG6I/AAAAAAAAAfY/MvuyOm2kgvM/s400/lessismore.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I thought I would update you guys with a super secret tip to boosting your Facebook page profile. Something we learnt early on in the game which helped our marketing <i>and </i>saved us time.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We're very downhearted about Facebook nowadays (our fans see maybe 20% of our posts compared to when we first started thanks to FB's money-grabbing and my stubbornest to not pay them to boost every single thing) but there's still something very effective in posting recent shoots and seeing the reaction of their family and friends. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
You would assume, as we did, post an album<i> </i>and there's more chance for comments and likes and shares. <i> </i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Nope. </i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i> </i>Post one. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Just one photo of the shoot. One of the best.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then <i>- maybe - </i>post another a few days later. Or post a group of 2-3 later on.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The impact is so much more powerful, you leave your audience wanting more.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Give it a go with your next shoot and you'll see the difference.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We've posted <b>whole photoshoots</b> and got a few likes, a couple of new followers and maybe a comment or two. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>One photo</b> and <i>boom, </i>everyone wants to talk about it. People <b>share</b> it, they comment with love hearts and 'beautiful' and ask where it was taken and did so-and-so take that because <i>wow. </i>It's amazing. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And that's what you want. You want them to want more so they like your page, follow your updates and <i>maybe even </i>book you in the future. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's a small tip, but it's one that has worked wonders for us so I hope it helps you guys move follow in your business :) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love, Georgee </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
P.S. Don't forget - <i>always </i>have permission to post first. A lot of our client base either
aren't on facebook or would prefer privacy, so always ask. You wouldn't
want someone who is effectively a stranger to post pictures of you to
their hundreds of fans without ok'ing it first either.</div>
</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WnuQJJJeDZA/VkdPaSta_JI/AAAAAAAAAfI/LU2GM6uebxg/s1600/MrandMrsPotter-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WnuQJJJeDZA/VkdPaSta_JI/AAAAAAAAAfI/LU2GM6uebxg/s400/MrandMrsPotter-1.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There's the obvious - take great photos. But that's not what I wanted to talk about today. You can take gorgeous wedding photographs - the best - and still be a sub-par photographer. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I once spoke to a bride who told me about her sisters wedding where the photographer actually <i>stopped the ceremony (THE CEREMONY!!) </i>in order to get them to pose. It was pretty simple - no matter how gorgeous the photos were, they were not going to hire him again.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's customer service that you need to pride yourself on, as well as the photos. If you want the bride's sister's wedding, her friends and family, then you need to be remembered as <i>the </i>wedding photographer. That person who made the wedding just a little bit better <i>and </i>took the best photos ever. My Dad was always naturally good at it, I think. He never advertised - it was all word of mouth because he's a brilliant at photographer <i>and </i>such a wonderful guy to have at your wedding.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So here's a few tips to making sure you are remembered for all the right reasons;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>1. Help out</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Help. Help so much. If they can't find a sister, go find her. If the bride's hair is out of place, fix it (or find someone who won't make it worse ;) ). Do <i>whatever </i>to help them out. I know you're only paid to take the photos, but you are with the bride and groom all day. It's one of the best days of their
life - so make sure it goes amazingly smooth for them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My Dad once drove the bridesmaids to the ceremony venue in the morning because the wedding party had miscounted the seats they needed. It made such a difference, because<i> </i>something goes wrong and <i>boom </i>there's help at hand.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. Know wedding ins and outs</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I cannot tell you how many times I've been asked which side the father of the bride stands walking down the aisle (Traditionally bride on the left side!!). Or how to do up the ties, where to hold flowers, etc etc.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3. Have fun with the wedding party</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Especially in the morning - or if they are too nervous at least be calming. Just be relaxed, yourself, and talk to them about their honeymoon, their ceremony, how gorgeous everything looks etc etc. They are nervous enough in the morning, they don't need to contend with you shoving a camera in their face.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>4. Don't get in the way</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Stopping the ceremony is an extreme in-the-way example, but there's a balance between moving around and getting in the way. Especially in the ceremony, don't move around too much. It's great to have two photographers in this instance, because you can be in two places without being distracting</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>5. Be happy for them</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm naturally quite (ha, very) emotional, so I feel teary every wedding even though I know what's going to happen because this is my hundredth wedding. But it definitely helps to be happy for them. You want to capture their joy of the day, the best way to do this is to be joyful for them, in my opinion.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope this helps push your wedding photography to another level. Let me know if you have any tips or tricks that I've missed :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

So I've been a little bit slow to post the last two weeks, I've not disappeared or anything, just very overworked!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Rob showed me this yesterday... (except the 'no we don't have time' we always make time) it's spot on!! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm sure it's the same for most jobs coming up to Christmas, I remember working in retail this time of year as a teenager - oh my word how I dreaded going in to work. At least this busy-ness is the fun, happy kind :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm also crazy enough to be opening my very own store non-etsy store, which I will be sharing as soon as it's ready! Bless my lovely future husband for taking on all the photo editing because there's just not enough hours in the day!!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cl_lyx5_jw0/ViuyE6Pyo1I/AAAAAAAAAeE/vOBCDgyt0Ew/s1600/YGP_7048.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cl_lyx5_jw0/ViuyE6Pyo1I/AAAAAAAAAeE/vOBCDgyt0Ew/s400/YGP_7048.jpg" width="327" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Photography is such a seasonal service. One minute you can be up to your ears in shoots and weddings and editing, then the next you're looking at your calendar and there's nothing going on. Especially in winter months.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's the same with us, we've been at this for just 3 years now and the trends are pretty clear. Photos are a great Christmas present for grandparents so we have a lot of family shoots up until mid-December. Summer is wedding season, which finished for us this year around late-August. Now weddings are one-a-month at best (which is super sad because autumn/winter weddings are so magical!!). There's March-April when everyone is enjoying holidays and Easter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then there's January.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
January is <i><u>quiet</u>. </i>It's not a surprise, because beyond beautiful winter weddings and newborns, most people don't have money to spend after Christmas. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know January is a few months off, but if you're just starting or an old hand, it's always hard to not be busy so here are a few tips that we use to get through the quieter seasons.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Plan</b>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Especially </i>in January. We plan<i> </i>the entire year in January. Obviously it's very loose and usually veers off course, but it's good to have a goal. We plan everything from our future goals to our monthly newsletters.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Mini Sessions.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mini Sessions are such a fun way to draw in business and<i> </i>new customers. It's a great way to meet new people who want to use your services but - especially in January - can't afford a higher price of a normal session.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Get Your Social Media on Point.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's easy to let it fall to the wayside in summer and coming up to Christmas, but when it's slow you'll have a chance to pin, tweet, instagram and google+ everything you and other local businesses have been doing.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Host a giveaway. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Facebook is a great way to get people to share and like for a free family or engagement shoot - although specify that they are in your location! This is a great way to get yourself noticed, share your content and not be bored!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Note: </i>Don't do too many giveaways as people will wait for these instead of booking your normal shoots.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Get Networking.</b><br />
<br />
Chances are, businesses local to you are feeling the same after-Christmas blues. Shops and anything retail is crazy because of the sales but some other service-based businesses are in the same boat as you. Ping them an email, set up a little meet and greet.<br />
<br />
Rob and I want to do a post-Christmas dinner in January - for other self-employed people who work all through Christmas - it's fun and a great way to make friends with other people on a similar path to yourself. (So if you're in Kent, give us a call, you'll be welcome!! :) )<br />
<br />
<b>Take Time off.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know this sounds like a filler tip, but it's a very practical one. Sometimes you can forget - as a self-employed person and especially in the early days of your business - that you need a holiday. It really helps to take a step back sometimes. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Lastly, enjoy it!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's easy to stress when you're not busy every day, but - as much as you love your job - you'll miss the lazy mornings when you're setting your alarm again.<br />
<br />
Hope this gives you guys a few ideas! Let me know if you have any great ideas, I'd love to hear them :)</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy Sunday Folks!! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, I got nominated to take part in the Liebster Award, a super fun way of finding new bloggers with great content and getting to know each other. Thank you so much the lovely Steph from <a href="http://autumn-dreamer.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Autumn Dreamer</a> for nominating me <3.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's how it works:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Link back to the person who nominated you</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Answer the 10 questions set by the nominator</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Create 10 new questions for 10 bloggers you nominate </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. Comment on your nominees blog with a link to your blog to let them know they've been nominated</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's that easy! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So my questions were...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>♥What's the inspiration to name your blog as you have done </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If feels a little bit corny to admit it, but it's photography/design related. Pixels are what makes up a photo on a screen and pine is one of the soft woods used to make paper.<br />
<b>
♥Why did you start blogging?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A very marketing-savvy person told Rob and myself to share only work photos on our social media sites, so I wanted somewhere to share our photos. I've been posting a lot of advice and tips too, which was a surprise to me but a really fun way to share what little knowledge I have :)<br />
<b>
♥What is your favourite memory</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A recent one - getting engaged, it was all very romantic and unexpected</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A childhood one - playing video games with my siblings<br />
<b>
♥If you had the chance to learn something new, what would it be and why?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I would like to be fluent in a few languages - I can get by in Italian and Bahasa, but I would like to be able to actually think in another language.<br />
<b>
♥What is the one dream that you wish to achieve before you die?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Go back to the Philippines - possibly to live - and re-visit all my favourite places. They have a slogan over there 'It's more fun in the Philippines' and it's most definitely the truest statement ever.<br />
<b>
♥What is your favourite book or film</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My very favourite book series is Mark of the Lion by Francine Rivers. Such an unbelievably beautiful series.<b> </b><br />
<b>
♥What do you like to do in your free time?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cinema is my favourite place to be, but it's sad to say a lot of my free time is out taking photos or designing things :)<br />
<b>
♥What makes you smile?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My future husband's stupid jokes<b> </b><br />
<b>
♥Sunrise or Sunset?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ooohhh Sunset, I think<b> </b><br />
<b>
♥Favourite season?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Summer - sunshine and flipflops are my very favourite things<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>So my turn to nominate, I've choosen...</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>1. <a href="http://perhapsbananas.org/" target="_blank">PerhapsBananas</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. <a href="http://www.rosemua.com/" target="_blank">Rose</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3. <a href="http://www.thespottedfox.co.uk/" target="_blank">TheSpottedFox</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>4. <a href="http://bloggerandthegeek.com/blog" target="_blank">Bloggerandthegeek</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>5. <a href="http://www.acupoft.co.uk/" target="_blank">ACupofT</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>6. <a href="http://www.littlesunnykitchen.com/" target="_blank">Little Sunny Kitchen</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>7. <a href="http://www.teastainedlauren.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">TeaStainedLauren</a></b></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>10. <a href="http://www.aprilshomemaking.com/" target="_blank">AprilsHomeMaking</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>My Questions</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. What made you start blogging? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Do you sleep on your front, back or side?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Name three things you couldn't live without</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. What is your favourite place in the world?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
5 What's your favourite tv series?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
6. What would you change in your life right now if you could</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
7. Windows or Mac?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
8. If you could go back in time, what time period would you go? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
9. Most inspirational person to you?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
10. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ahh, this was so much fun!! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Don't forget to comment below with your post so I can read your answers everyone :)<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you again Autumn Dreamer for nominating me!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lpOEEQGX75U/Vh5DH1NQ3gI/AAAAAAAAAdU/WxfsVWU_lqQ/s1600/wedding-photographer-mistakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lpOEEQGX75U/Vh5DH1NQ3gI/AAAAAAAAAdU/WxfsVWU_lqQ/s400/wedding-photographer-mistakes.jpg" width="305" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Picking a Wedding Photographer is like picking a bridesmaid. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know that seems a bit of a stretch but it really, really isn't. You are trusting this person to capture all the memories of your entire day, they have once chance to get it right. It's a big deal.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I've written a few warning signs that I've learnt over the past few years.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>1. Plan a meeting with your photographer to ask face to face.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If they won't meet without you booking, there's something wrong. It's so important that your photographer values your wedding and not just the money they make from it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. Make sure your photographer has a backup plan (and the backup plan has a backup plan).</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is so, so crutial. Ask them all different senarios - what if you break your leg? Or your car breaks down on the way to the wedding? Or your wife goes into labour? Ask <i>all </i>the questions, they need to have a plan for it all. We have people to ask, other photographers we know in the area, including my Dad who taught us everything we know. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3. Ask your potential photographer if they have backup equipment.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This goes with number 2 really, but still important enough to have it's own catorgory. What if they drop their camera? Or the lens malfunctions? They need to have at least one camera extra as a backup.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>4. There's no contract.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A massive sign they don't take their own business seriously, they don't have a contract for the both of you to sign. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>5. They don't have professional equipment.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't expect you to know what it is when you ask - but ask them and google it. I'm a Canon girl - so I couldn't tell you what the best Nikon is - but on Canon the less 0s the better (5D is better than 50D). It doesn't have to be the best because it's not all about equipment, but if they're planning on a 500D for your wedding day, be suspicious. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QvKRS2ipyr0/Vh5DM_HAFaI/AAAAAAAAAdc/Vd4dsIiLmLA/s1600/1549416_10152401331197386_8473084097104577973_n%2B%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="235" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QvKRS2ipyr0/Vh5DM_HAFaI/AAAAAAAAAdc/Vd4dsIiLmLA/s640/1549416_10152401331197386_8473084097104577973_n%2B%25281%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>6. Ask to see an entire wedding day.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We keep a few recent weddings on the iPad for this very reason. There's 600-800 (low res!) photos in each of these albums but you need to see exactly the type of day you'll be getting, not just the ceremony and getting ready - but the candid shots of aunties and cousins and friends.<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>7. Your photographer uses anything other than Lightroom/Aperture or Photoshop.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not saying it's got to be one of those exactly, but if they use a cheap editing software, they're not serious enough about their business. Ask them and if you don't recognise it - google it afterwards.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>8. Your photographer has no insurance to speak of.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Insurance covers them but also kind of settles in your own mind how serious they take their own business. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>9. Ask for references or to see reviews.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Or just google them and go through a few pages to see what people are saying. Facebook is good for it too, just make sure they have proof to backup their claims.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>10. Be sure that you <i>like </i>your photographer.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sounds silly, doesn't it? You should like their photos, but whether you actually like them is key. I'm not saying this person isn't a good person, it's just that some people just don't gel well with others. If you don't like them, you'll be less relaxed around them and therefore won't get the best out of your photos.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hope this helped a little bit!! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love, Georgee</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Rob and I are getting married in a beautiful town called Petritoli and have been fortunate enough to visit in order to plan/sneak away for a holiday.<br />
<br />
My Dad and Rob were camera hogging throughout our stay - mostly because I was busy instagramming everything in sight :)<br />
Post-production Rob's taken with a new panoramic ratio - it tends to look really striking with landscapes - maybe not so much with portraits - but I'm not 100%. What do you think?<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ym5XA-wJvEU/Vg-Ge-5UDjI/AAAAAAAAAbA/VpLh-4LawWg/s640/blogger-image-1355117070.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ym5XA-wJvEU/Vg-Ge-5UDjI/AAAAAAAAAbA/VpLh-4LawWg/s640/blogger-image-1355117070.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm still in Italy at the moment and it's super beautiful today. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We all took carry-ons only, so we figured we'd only bring one camera between us this trip. It's a good plan as I don't take a lot of photos on my holidays because I tend to miss the moment when I'm trying to capture it on an SLR. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So it's shared between my Dad and Rob while I snap away on my semi-new iPhone.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's a different kind of challenge because there is very little control compared to a 'real' camera but I have a few tips for those of you trying to take holiday snaps with a small (but powerful!) camera phone.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>1. Use the natural light. </b><br />
Maybe it's just me, but I find the flash from the iPhone can ruin a photo. It's too harsh, too many shadows, you're much better using what's your eye is using.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. Wipe the lens all the time.</b><br />
Smudges will make a photo washed out and blurred.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gHlwj2M-pSg/Vg-Ewdq8PAI/AAAAAAAAAas/vL4lDNsMzGE/s640/blogger-image-14653349.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gHlwj2M-pSg/Vg-Ewdq8PAI/AAAAAAAAAas/vL4lDNsMzGE/s640/blogger-image-14653349.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>3. Don't move too fast.</b><br />
This is my hardest because I'm already looking for the next picture when my hand is off the clicker, but stay still for an extra second to make sure your photos are as sharp as possible.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Tap on the screen where you want the focus.</b><br />
This determines the exposure (how light/dark the photo is). If it's people your photographing, click on their faces for the right exposure for the subject.<br />
<br />
<b>5. Tap around on the screen for find the best light.</b><br />
Clicking on a bright light may give you a silhouette or a dark area a dramatic skyline so play around with it to see what looks great.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-r9Ljmp36z3I/Vg-Gd-pZhwI/AAAAAAAAAa4/k_91bY4rR00/s640/blogger-image-1325136070.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-r9Ljmp36z3I/Vg-Gd-pZhwI/AAAAAAAAAa4/k_91bY4rR00/s640/blogger-image-1325136070.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<b>6. Look for different angles.</b><br />
Go low, use buildings to frame or natural lines to lead to your subjects.<br />
<br />
<b>7. Move Closer.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you want a closer crop, don't zoom in but move yourself nearer. The zoom is digital so you're losing quality.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LltsGsqGX7A/Vg-EvNlLCQI/AAAAAAAAAak/Qv-ddXRs3LU/s640/blogger-image--1006837058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LltsGsqGX7A/Vg-EvNlLCQI/AAAAAAAAAak/Qv-ddXRs3LU/s640/blogger-image--1006837058.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thanks for reading guys, let me know if you have any tips of your own :)</div>

I'm in Italy and it's beautiful. The weather has taken a turn for the worse today but I know that's because a thunderstorm is coming and I <i>love </i>storms.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Rob and I are getting married next year in Le Marche, my favourite region of Italy, which is why we're here - to plan (and sneak in a mini holiday with our parents).<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Le Marche is super amazing, very much a rural, untouched part of the country compared to the busy Rome and tourist-y Tuscany. Well worth a look at if you're after a vacation in Italy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyways, no laptop, just an iPad and wifi so I apologise for our iPhone photos. And our regularly scheduled programmes will be back soon :)</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vpt0WlV4uSw/VgVQ39MesqI/AAAAAAAAAYg/8Oaqe9LhVqc/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.33.00.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vpt0WlV4uSw/VgVQ39MesqI/AAAAAAAAAYg/8Oaqe9LhVqc/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.33.00.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Clipping masks are so perfect in photoshop. I use them all the time - for everything. The templates we make here pretty much all use clipping masks. It's such a simple but brilliant part of photoshop.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So in this tutorial I'm going to briefly explain how to make a clipping mask. Last week I went over using <a href="http://www.pixelsandpine.com/2015/09/how-to-use-clipping-masks-on-premade.html#more" target="_blank">pre-made clipping masks in templates</a> but if your design or a design you have purchased comes without it's an easy trick to learn and it saves so much time and energy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Start by File > Open the template you want to use. Or, alternatively, open a blank canvas and draw a square or rectangle with the 'shape' tool.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm using one of my storyboard templates from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/yougrewdigital" target="_blank">here</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The selected layer is going to be the 'base' layer, so the layer that defines the shape of the photo.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next, drag and drop your photo into the document.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mvhd0fRbc8Y/VgVRPs9ihxI/AAAAAAAAAYo/XaCksrRr1hE/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.35.21.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mvhd0fRbc8Y/VgVRPs9ihxI/AAAAAAAAAYo/XaCksrRr1hE/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.35.21.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
See how it is bigger and overlapping the layers below it? We want it inside the large grey box. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Make sure the photo layer - or the layer you want to show inside your shape - is just above the 'Base' layer. If it's not, drag and drop from the layer column. (If this is missing Window > Layers will open it up.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2ANy14moI1Q/VgVSO0U2yWI/AAAAAAAAAY0/fU49Lr2bIto/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.35.34.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2ANy14moI1Q/VgVSO0U2yWI/AAAAAAAAAY0/fU49Lr2bIto/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.35.34.jpg" width="253" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Now select the top layer, the photo. Right hand click on the area and find 'Create clipping mask'</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eZI7K2FjukE/VgVSsWENqOI/AAAAAAAAAY8/JVbjdj1ym9Y/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.35.47.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eZI7K2FjukE/VgVSsWENqOI/AAAAAAAAAY8/JVbjdj1ym9Y/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.35.47.jpg" width="249" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Your layers should then look something like this</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8oGgpCrUZRk/VgVTDcZ7QCI/AAAAAAAAAZE/FWi9wBxYDjs/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.35.58.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8oGgpCrUZRk/VgVTDcZ7QCI/AAAAAAAAAZE/FWi9wBxYDjs/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-25%2Bat%2B14.35.58.png" width="253" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
The photo layer should be indented with a little angled arrow on the left hand side. The base layer is now defining what is visible of the photo. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Your photo will not automatically move to fit, so it'll just clip to the base layer where it is. This may mean you need to locate it and drag it into the space. In my photo, it's a little far over to the left.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Once it's in place, you're done. On to the next one. Any layer (except text layers) can be base layers, any layers can be the clipped layers. It doesn't just apply to photos and shapes, so have a play around and see what you can do with clipping masks :)<br />

Rob and I had the absolute pleasure of re-visiting this beautiful family this month for an outdoor session. It's such a joy to see them all again, especially their little lady who is no longer the tiny little baby girl we wrapped up in a blanket for photos.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EsePwc54cW4/VgKs3fJ7CyI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/MHVM2m9WWE0/s1600/PHOTOSHOP-clipping-masks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EsePwc54cW4/VgKs3fJ7CyI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/MHVM2m9WWE0/s320/PHOTOSHOP-clipping-masks.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
A clipping mask is a layer that defines what's visible of the layer above it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
For a photographer or a blogger or anyone who needs photoshop templates in their day to day life, clipping masks will probably come up. Many of the digital templates I sell on my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/YouGrewDigital" target="_blank">etsy store</a> makes use of clipping masks, because they make life so easy - no need to crop every photo or line everything up <i>every single time</i>.<i> </i><br />
<br />
Good storyboards and photo templates from any one who makes them to sell or for personal use are almost always made with clipping masks.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To easily define clipping masks in layers you'll see something like this<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JOyjmGA53I8/VgKX3p1eB8I/AAAAAAAAAWo/YPIBsSD9p9Y/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B12.08.19.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JOyjmGA53I8/VgKX3p1eB8I/AAAAAAAAAWo/YPIBsSD9p9Y/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B12.08.19.png" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
See the little corner arrow and how the top layer is indent slightly? That suggests that 'Layer 1' is clipped to 'Photo 1'.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here I'll show you how to use existing clipping mask templates.<br />
<br />
First, file > open and find your template to open in photoshop. I'm using one of my own to demonstrate. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-30tJNVXCi24/VgKerAvMNJI/AAAAAAAAAXA/5JPSZ9pscKM/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.43.57.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-30tJNVXCi24/VgKerAvMNJI/AAAAAAAAAXA/5JPSZ9pscKM/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.43.57.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Make sure you can see all the layer with Window > Layers<br />
<br />
These are the layers, you should have something similar if using a premade template:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N_t7_79BWBA/VgKjl1hJAuI/AAAAAAAAAYA/y_gytoL22B8/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.29.39.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N_t7_79BWBA/VgKjl1hJAuI/AAAAAAAAAYA/y_gytoL22B8/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.29.39.png" width="237" /></a></div>
<br />
The boxes that are light grey are base layers. They are the clipping mask, the part that defines what is going to be visible.<br />
<br />
The teal layers above are clipped to the base layer. The teal layers are
there so that your photo automatically turns into a clipping mask for
ease and speed of use. This way, you don't need to clip anything, just drag and drop.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make sure to turn off the little eye on the layers that are clipped so that your photo is the only layer that will show up. (Most of mine should already be off, but it's easy to click on or for me to miss)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9YUpkyutNjc/VgKjcb3-vgI/AAAAAAAAAX8/Anu646p5Wwg/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.29.39.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9YUpkyutNjc/VgKjcb3-vgI/AAAAAAAAAX8/Anu646p5Wwg/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.29.39.jpg" width="237" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Then file > open all the photos you want to use for your template<br />
Drag and drop your photo onto the template.<br />
<br />
This photo layer needs to fit the space on the template. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nVKG_bnB5-8/VgKd1I2BHcI/AAAAAAAAAW4/tb5oAJOofRk/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.32.17.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nVKG_bnB5-8/VgKd1I2BHcI/AAAAAAAAAW4/tb5oAJOofRk/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.32.17.png" width="314" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The layer
that is already clipped will automatically make your photo clipped too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1kw3ASOOlzA/VgKfmBMKldI/AAAAAAAAAXI/dMJmX9UD8ko/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.32.34.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1kw3ASOOlzA/VgKfmBMKldI/AAAAAAAAAXI/dMJmX9UD8ko/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.32.34.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Click and hold on your photo layer to drag and drop it between the Base layer and the already clipped layer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-waN9vbW1yws/VgKf2Vqb6tI/AAAAAAAAAXU/RDLNBBtc8qQ/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.32.41.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-waN9vbW1yws/VgKf2Vqb6tI/AAAAAAAAAXU/RDLNBBtc8qQ/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.32.41.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Some of your layers may need to be resizes or moved around to fit into
the mask. Like below, you just need to select the layer and click and
drag to fit it into place. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r-Fq3IcPuKQ/VgKg_BGORzI/AAAAAAAAAXc/lrEGO5C0Diw/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.33.14.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r-Fq3IcPuKQ/VgKg_BGORzI/AAAAAAAAAXc/lrEGO5C0Diw/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.33.14.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Make sure Auto-Select is ticked off because this can make for some unneeded hassle when tried to move layers around.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JUu_Tmawab0/VgKh7sSrpdI/AAAAAAAAAXk/94Niyq6MD5k/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.55.52.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JUu_Tmawab0/VgKh7sSrpdI/AAAAAAAAAXk/94Niyq6MD5k/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-23%2Bat%2B13.55.52.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
There you have it. I hope this helped, if anyone has any question feel free to ask I'll be happy to help :)<br />

I'll share how to make clipping masks next week :)<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Engagement<b><i> </i></b>shoots, or pre-wedding shoots as some people call them, are important for a bride and groom. Maybe more than they realise. It's a time to get to know each other and let them get a better idea of what to expect on their big day.<br />
<br />
So here's a few things that changed our pre-wedding shoots...<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<b>1. Do something nice for your subjects.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For a few reasons; mostly because it helps with their nerves but also because they've got a reason to talk about you. And word of mouth is so so very important in this business.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We sometimes bring a bottle of champagne, which is always fun. During winter or bad days (it is England, after all) we bring coffee vouchers or chocolates or fancy tea. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. Book the shoot an hour before sunset.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Most important tip ever. Sunset is such a gorgeous time for photos, even if the sun isn't shining it still shows.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3. Don't dive right it.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Have a chat first, always. Go for a mini-walk or have a cup of tea, just chat about what they'd like to get from the shoot. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>4. Plan ahead.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Sometimes it's impossible, if it's at a client's property or 100 miles away. But if you're nearby, it's best to check out the place you're going to visit. It's a good way to find the cutest spots. You can be

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>5. Make sure everyone is relaxed</b>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Candid photos are, in my opinion, the best. You can pose your subjects and still get a 'candid' photo. Leave the pair of them to have a chat for a couple of minutes, tell a joke (or better yet, get them to tell a joke) or get one of them to pinch a bum - be very very careful with that one, you could offend!! - or a bear hug - much safer!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And don't forget to enjoy yourself, always.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Rob and I are self-employed Photographers. It all seems very romantic, we go to loads of weddings and capture beautiful families and new babies. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And it is very magical, but it's also very business-y. We're not just photographers - we're designers, customer service, sales people, accountants and more. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So we put together a list of tips to keep your business in order, whether you're a photographer or something just as exciting. We self-employed people have to have each other's backs after all :) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/21254089939/in/datetaken/" title="selfemploymenttips"><img alt="selfemploymenttips" height="1929" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/566/21254089939_13b5e718f0_o.jpg" width="1572" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b></b><br />
<a name='more'></a><b> </b><br />
<br />
<b>1. Make a simple excel spreadsheet to keep track of everything</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The one we use is really amazing (Rob spent forever on it) but you only need a page or two to get going.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. Note down every single pound (or dollar or peso or euro!!) you make</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's incredibly theraputic to put money in a spreadsheet and think <i>I worked hard for that</i><b>.</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3. Constantly update yourself</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Keep up to date, whether it's your website or your customer services or your product itself, keep an eye on trends so you don't fall behind.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>4. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You're working for yourself <i>and you are amazing at it. </i>Don't forget to stop and enjoy the moment occasionally. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>5. Set deadlines</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You're your own boss, but I personally know how easy it is to get sidetracked with Bloglovin' or Facebook</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>6. Have a day off</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Rob and I are guilty of ignoring this one. There's never a day we don't get to the computer or camera and do <i>something </i>productive. Days off help boost the days on.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>7. Keep insurance well and truly up to date </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Insurance is obviously pretty important, not just for you legally, but for your customers peace of mind. I will always trust a business that has insurance over a business that doesn't and I'm sure I'm not the only one.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>8. Use your time to do good</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Self-employed generally means you have access to more time or a product/service that can actually help people. Take the time out to help a charity of your choosing. It's good for business - but more importantly it's good for life. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>9. Back up <i>everything</i></b><br />
It's so easy to just copy and paste onto a USB. The panic of losing all your hard work and re-doing <i>everything </i>is not worth the risk.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>10. Plan for the future</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Plan way ahead. You may not be at saving-for-retirement stage, but plan where you want your business and money is going to go in the future.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>11. Branding is a must </b><br />
You may not be Apple or Google, but it's the same concept on a smaller scale - people who know you need to be able to instantly recognise your services or product. <br />
<br />
<b>12. You can slow down, but never stop</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Obviously :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Love, Georgee xx</b><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/21162304879/in/datetaken/" title="5waystoimprovephotos"><img alt="5waystoimprovephotos" height="1932" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5814/21162304879_058df5806b_o.jpg" width="1500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
I'm a big advocate of 'manual mode'. Depth of field is my life. Composition, framing and lead in lines are something I'll go over at a later date, but these things take time to learn and most people don't get the DSLR out every trip out. That's what an iPhone is for, after all. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I've got 5 very easy, instant ways to improve photos of your family and friends. (Even on an iPhone!)<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>1. Keep an eye on the background</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not talking about finding a gorgeous landscape every time you take a photo, I mean a quick check to see if there are lampshades sticking out of Granddad's head or a tree branch through the ear of your daughter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/21153578238/in/datetaken/" title="10922355_812871272116786_41892951803668186_o"><img alt="10922355_812871272116786_41892951803668186_o" height="975" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5820/21153578238_107bfc85c7_o.jpg" width="1300" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<b> </b><br />
<b>2. Go Outside!!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Obviously (and especially in England) outdoors aren't always viable, but when you want to take cute photos of your child's newest milestone, outdoors is the way to go. Natural lights beats tungsten every time.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3. Morning or Evening</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Midday is boring, in photos especially. Light is above your head, there's nothing dramatic or pretty about it. I love when the sun is setting or rising. Super beautiful, warm colours. It doesn't have to be drastic, like 6am or anything, just avoid the sun's highest point.<br />
<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/" title="Kent photographers"><img alt="Kent photographers" height="355" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/760/21341445065_d7331b0586_o.jpg" width="960" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<b>4. Tuck in your elbows</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b>Sounds
silly, but it's a real rule for us. You'll rarely see a pro photographer with their
elbows sticking out in all directions (unless they're in a weird
position which is totally not uncommon).<br />
<br />
It's not because I'm worried
you're going to knock someone out, it's for stabilizing your camera. Any
camera, probably especially a compact camera, needs to be stable to
take a pin-sharp photo. You can't practically carry a tripod around everywhere so this
is the next best thing. </div>
</div>
<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/21347803405/in/datetaken/" title="photographyinsidcup"><img alt="photographyinsidcup" height="525" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5728/21347803405_d6c2bfd6d8_o.jpg" width="700" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>5. Be Patient</b><br />
We tend to tell Mums this before a photoshoot, but if you're not patient, neither is your subject. <br />
<br />
If calling their name and making faces isn't working, just stop for three or four minutes. We like to give our reluctant subjects the time to get used to their surroundings, to look around and to enjoy the moment. Sometimes they turn back to us with the cutest smile ever, sometimes we have to gently remind them we're there. It can be slower than you want, but it's always better than a frowny face.<br />
<br />
It's more for younger subjects than anyone, but your teenager isn't going to look very happy if you are demanding they smile. Have some fun with them instead and then snap a photo. <br />
<br />
So there you have it!! What are you waiting for, go take amazing photos :) :)<br />
<br />
Love, Georgee xx <br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I have to admit, I'm not a city kind of girl. I love green fields and windy country roads, big grey buildings don't fasiniate me a whole bunch.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But London is very pretty, isn't it?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We've been in the city this week, doing some very modern headshots for a company in The Square Mile, the finanical district of London. It's not often companies allow us to have a lot of say or creativity in their company photos - it's usually head and shoulders with a high white background. Safe... but sometimes too safe. These guys gave us the opportunity do our thing and it turned out really great.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Obviously sharing their headshots isn't something we can do, but Rob took a few photos on our walkabout afterwards that I figure I could share.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/21303021251/in/datetaken/" title="IMG_4430"><img alt="IMG_4430" height="533" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5772/21303021251_0afe38a397_o.jpg" width="800" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/21106807440/in/datetaken/" title="IMG_4437"><img alt="IMG_4437" height="800" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/724/21106807440_a6c425298d_o.jpg" width="533" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Midday is definitely not a good time for photos but being on the clock we didn't have the time to hang about :) I think the contrast in old and new in London very striking. Buildings are no longer big concrete blocks, but clear panels of glass that reflect the sky. Pretty on a clear day when everything's blue. Not that that happens often here in sunny England :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Love,</div>

Inexpensive Remote Trigger :)<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
I love gadgets. Especially fun, inexpensive gadgets. This one is super cool and new and £5 from eBay so I'm sure we'll have to buy a few backups because how can anything work for £5?? <br />
<br />
We took this pic in front of the camera!!<br />
<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/21031964169/in/datetaken/" title="Camera gadgets"><img alt="Camera gadgets" height="750" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/697/21031964169_d68c604780_o.jpg" width="1000" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
It has two settings, immediate and 2 seconds. Push the button and, boom, hands-free photos!! It's great when we have a slow shutter speed as even pressing the button can shake the frame.<br />
Also when we want to take our personal family photos without running backwards and forwards like this one V<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/134872469@N04/20597487724/in/datetaken/" title="Family Photo Kent"><img alt="Family Photo Kent" height="719" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5683/20597487724_c33c99cc1a_o.jpg" width="960" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script>
<br />
<br />
It'll hopefully be a fun way to convince reluctant little brothers
and sisters to join in a photoshoot. Whenever we have sessions with kids who don't want to be in the photo we ask them to get behind the behind or
even take a sneaky one of them and show them on the back of the
camera.
Young children are always fasinated by their own faces - or even
seeing a sibling in a picture. Once they've got in the swing of things, it's hard for them not to enjoy being in front of the camera too. So this may be an easier way to get them involved, we'll see :) <br />
<br />
One downside we found is you have to be above, in front or (kind
of) at the side of the camera, not behind. It works with inferred and
apparently that's only at the front, at least in our 7 and 5D.<br />
<br />
Obviously it's not perfect but it's a great addition to our setup and I really can't get over the price. <br />
<br />
It says Canon but how true can that be?<br />
<br />
Regardless, it's super fun, it's not going to get used every single day but for £5, it's a bargain.<br />
<br />

I'm super excited for my (our, whatever :) ) wedding next year. It's like a magical, Italian fairytale. We've invited around 60 of our close friends and family to join us for a week in a castle, in Le Marche, Italy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Rob and I had the opportunity to visit Petritoli before we booked it, as the lovely couple who run the castle (or Palace as they call it) like you to be sure you're making the right decision.<br />
<br />
We get to go back in October as it's now booked and we need to plan so I thought I would share some photos of the beautiful town before we go back when it's a lot less sunny :) </div>

I thought I would share some of my favourite photos of Rob's little nephews before we sneak in another photoshoot of them... with the newest member of the family. She's almost 6 months now so we're late to the photoshoot party, but she's at a great stage where she laughs and smiles and looks at us with big, beautiful eyes.<br />
<br />
Those photos are to come in the next few weeks, but at the mo here's the big brothers before little sister arrived :)<br />

The weather in England went from summer to winter this week. Actual summer with flip flops and shorts and sunglasses to these sad, miserable days. The jackets are back. My feet are constantly freezing. I've got those cute fluffy microwave slippers but I'm too stubborn to use them in the middle of August. <br />

I thought I heard thunder which - sadly - was wishful thinking, but it reminded me of some of Rob's photos sitting on the hard drive with no where to go.<br />
